2000 miles of readings and country music

During the past 8 days, my sister and I drove from south Texas to Ohio, doing 6 Stealing Nasreen book readings in 5 cities.  Here are the highlights:

-meeting the gals from SALIR (http://www.salir.us/) who came out to the San Antonio reading despite the flooded roads and Tropical Storm Erin

-visiting with family and reading at the Val Verde County Library in Del Rio (to a wonderful group of book-lovers) http://www.supportlibrary.com/nl/users/valverde/web/nl_23.html

-chatting with customers at Faubourg Marigny Art and Books in New Orleans

-doing a reading to the Columbus lesbians at Gwen’s

Besides the book touring, my sister and I did a bit of travelling and sightseeing. I loved being able to see a huge alligator on the Honey Island Swamp tour http://www.honeyislandswamp.com/ .  Probably my favourite stop was Robert’s Western World in Nashville, where we saw Phil Hummer and the Tecumseh Two play. Check them out at www.philhummer.com . We listened to Phil’s musical stylings most of the way through Tennessee and Kentucky.

Thanks to everyone who made the tour a success–all of you who came out to hear me read, those of you who spread the word, and everyone who hosted us. Most of all, a big thanks to my sister, Fariya, who was my #1 fan along the way.
