Happy Spring! I hope you're all well, despite this ongoing pandemic. Here are a few bits of news I wanted to share:

I'm honoured to be named April's Woman of Influence by The Well Collaborative, a Saskatoon-based community for women entrepreneurs, creatives and leaders. Join is on Instagram Live @thewellcollab or @farzanadoctor on Friday April 30th at 11am CST/12pm EST for a 20 minute conversation with founder Tammy Zdunich.

Join me on Sunday May 16th, 9-11am EST for this workshop. We need more mental health and trauma therapists to learn the basic skills to be able to work with survivors of female genital cutting/mutilation! Watch live or by replay. Register here.

Check out this new podcast, Parallel Careers, from The New Quarterly's Claire Tacon. We talked about how being a psychotherapist informs my writing and teaching practices. Here's the breakdown:
02:14 | The lightning bolt of inspiration that helped me revise my novel All Inclusive
03:53 | Being respectful when writing about real-world events, such as the Air India bombing
06:40 | How activism sparked my most recent novel, Seven, a multi-generational story dealing with the impact of khatna in the Dawoodi Bohra community
08:54 | Self-care for writers both while creating new work and while promoting it
13:05 | Techniques for befriending your inner critic
15:20 | Facilitating constructive peer feedback
Plus there are outtakes and bonus writing exercises!

Check out this short chat with Dr. Martha Lee and then join us at the Sugar and Spice festival monthly talk on May 12th.  More info here.
